About Photos for the Blind
Making meaningful photographs accessible through touch.
Photos for the Blind is being built so a personal photograph can be experienced in a way that does not depend on sight alone.
Our mission
Turn photographs into tactile experiences.
We plan to translate meaningful personal photographs into raised 3D prints that blind and low-vision people can explore with their hands.
The goal is not to recreate every visual detail. It is to identify the shapes, contours, and relationships that carry the subject of the image and make those features understandable through touch.

The approach
Built around the recipient, not the technology.
Start with something meaningful
A tactile photograph should begin with an image the recipient actually cares about, not a generic demonstration piece.
Design for touch
Shapes, relief heights, textures, descriptions, and handling all need to work together as a tactile experience.
Keep it free for the long term
Our plan is for accepted tactile prints and standard shipping to always remain free to qualifying blind and low-vision recipients, sustained by individual donors, organizations, and corporate sponsors.
Current focus
Build the process before scaling it.
We’re refining prototypes, accessibility standards, privacy practices, packaging, and the request workflow that will support the program.
Feedback from blind and low-vision users and people experienced with tactile materials will help shape the finished service.
Help bring the first tactile photographs to life.
Support the prototypes, explore the process, or learn how collaboration can help strengthen the project.
