Free tactile photo requests

A photograph that can be experienced through touch.

We’re preparing a simple, accessible request process for people who are blind or have low vision. The finished tactile print and standard shipping are planned to be free for accepted requests. Our long-term goal is to keep them free, always.

How a request will work

Simple steps, with the person receiving the print at the center.

01

Choose the photograph

Select an image with a meaningful subject and tell us which person, animal, object, or place should be the focus.

02

We design the tactile version

We plan to simplify the image into raised forms that communicate the subject clearly without overwhelming the hands with unnecessary detail.

03

We print and deliver it

Accepted prints will be checked for quality, packaged carefully, and sent to the recipient with descriptive context.

Who it is for

For people who are blind or have low vision.

A recipient will be able to request a print directly or have a trusted family member, friend, or support person help with their knowledge and permission.

Eligibility, service area, and request capacity will be clearly explained when the request form opens.

Strong starting points

What kind of picture works well?

  • A familiar face or person
  • A beloved animal
  • A meaningful place or object
  • A scene with one clear main subject

The design process can remove visual clutter and emphasize the forms that are most useful to explore by touch.

Before requesting

Three things you can prepare.

PHOTO

A meaningful image

Choose a photograph with a recognizable subject. The original, highest-quality file is best.

CONTEXT

A few useful details

Tell us who or what is pictured, what matters most in the image, and anything that helps us understand the memory.

PERMISSION

Clear consent

Make sure you have the right to submit the image and, when helping another person, their permission to receive the print.

Privacy by design

Personal photographs should stay personal.

The request process is being built around careful handling of photographs, contact information, and delivery details. Public sharing of a photograph or recipient story will always be optional and permission-based.

Read our privacy principles

Free requests are planned after the pilot.

We’re building the printing, accessibility, privacy, and fulfillment process now so the first requests can be handled well from the start. Ongoing donors and sponsors will help carry the cost so the sight-impaired community can continue receiving tactile photographs without charge.
